A Despensa — Italian cooking in Porto, for ten years.

For a decade now, on Rua Conde de Vizela, we've been serving Italian food the way it's made at home: Fantastic pasta, risottos given the time they need, ingredients chosen one by one. We don't try to seem Italian — we simply are.

Our guests always mention the same things. The carbonara and the amatriciana. The penne al tartufo, the mushroom risotto, the chef's bruschetta board to start and the tiramisù to finish. And they mention the room — the plants overhead, the tables built on old Singer sewing machines, the kind of atmosphere that turns a two-hour dinner into what feels like ten minutes.

But what we're proudest of is what they say about the service. We're in the dining room, every day. We'll sit down with you, suggest the wine, ask how it all went. One guest wrote that our service feels like a warm embrace — we've held on to that one.

Gluten-free cooking gets the same care: allergens marked throughout the menu, gluten-free bread, and nearly every dish adaptable, served by a team that knows exactly what's on the plate. Vegetarian and vegan options are clearly flagged.

We're a small restaurant and we fill up every night. Book ahead — it's worth it.
